Call of Duty: Black Ops II is a first-person shooter video game developed by Treyarch and published by Activision. It is the ninth main installment in the Call of Duty series and was released on November 13, 2012 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The game is set in the near future during a global Cold War between the United States and China. Players take control of an elite black ops soldier who is tasked with completing various missions across the world. The single-player campaign follows two interconnected storylines; one set in the 1980s during the Cold War and one set in 2025 during a new Cold War between China and the United States. The player switches between these two timelines throughout the game, playing as different characters in each timeline. In addition to the single-player campaign, Black Ops II also features a competitive multiplayer mode and a cooperative Zombies mode. The multiplayer mode features various game types such as Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, Capture the Flag, Domination, Kill Confirmed, Hardpoint Domination, Search & Destroy and more. Players can customize their loadouts with weapons, attachments and perks that can be unlocked through playing matches or purchasing them with in-game currency called CoD Points. The Zombies mode features four maps at launch with more being added through downloadable content packs. It also includes an extensive XP progression system which allows players to unlock new weapons, perks and other items as they progress through levels.
