NHL 14 is a sports video game developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports. It is the latest installment in the NHL series and was released on September 10, 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game features improved graphics, new gameplay mechanics, and a variety of modes for both single-player and multiplayer. The game features a new physics engine that allows for more realistic collisions between players, as well as improved puck control and skating animations. Players can now use the right analog stick to perform advanced maneuvers such as spins, dekes, and shots. The game also includes new defensive AI that allows players to better anticipate opponents’ moves. For single-player mode, NHL 14 offers a variety of options including Be A Pro mode where players create their own character and work their way up from the minor leagues to the NHL; Hockey Ultimate Team where players build their own team from scratch; and GM Connected which allows up to 750 players to play online in a persistent online league. For multiplayer mode, NHL 14 offers local play with up to four players or online play with up to 12 players. NHL 14 also features several improvements over its predecessor including improved presentation with real-time commentary from Gary Thorne and Bill Clement; an expanded soundtrack featuring over 50 songs from various genres; an enhanced broadcast camera view; and an improved interface for navigating menus. Additionally, there are several downloadable content packs available for purchase that add new teams, arenas, jerseys, player faces, and more.
